Community Microsoft Authorized Refurbisher
Posted by: Josh Tue 07th Jul 2009 09:31 am
|
||
| We are now a Community Microsoft Authorized Refurbisher (CMAR), which means that every system we refurbish will come with Genuine Microsoft Software. Microsoft has documentation that outlines the reinstallation of their operating system on refurbished computers. In order to reuse the license with the system (the sticker on the tower) the operating system has to be reinstalled with the original back up media (the cd/dvd or partition on the hard drive). If the computer is donated without the original backup media than a new license is required. Being a part of the CMAR program allows us to obtain a new license and refurbish the computer at a fraction of the cost of purchasing a license at retail level. | ||

An update on the laptops in Guatemala

So far about half of the laptops have arrived in Guatemala, heres an update from Diane of Sharing the Dream: "2 computers went to field workers at Oxlajuj B,atz,. This is a sister organization of ours that works with health issues, etc. 2 computers went to our elder centre, where we are renting out two rooms in order to subsidize the elder centre. This will be a great draw to get volunteers who will rent the room. When this is full it may draw in maybe up to $600 per month for our centre. 1 went to a childrens library that we work with in Santiago. 3 went to Ruth and Noemí centre for our scholarship students. Our scholarship students have to go to the internet café and pay to do their homework. We set up a station at the centre where they already have internet for the students to work there…. We will buy a printer for them to use too. This is the amount that we got there. I also hope to give 2 to the school in Chacaya. It is being built right now so I didn,t want to give them any until it is built. 2 more to the childrens library. The rest to the womens groups that we work with, we will have a training program to show them how to use them. I will be going down in the fall so hope to get the rest of them there." What incredible work, thanks for letting us be a part. |
